If you’ve ever strolled through Oakleigh’s dining precinct on a weekend it’s hard to miss the bustling cafe and cake shop that is Nikos Quality Cakes.
Located on Portman St, the family-owned business is a popular brunch spot with locals and has been operating in Oakleigh for almost 30 years.
With humble beginnings as a neighbourhood cake shop, Nikos has since flourished into the cornerstone of Oakleigh’s cafe culture and established itself as one of the leading cake suppliers in Melbourne.
Denise Paras, Manager of Nikos Cakes said the cafe’s atmosphere and good name kept people coming back time and time again.
“We’ve been here for so long, everybody knows that our product is great,” she said.
Famous for its delectable cakes and pastries, Nikos’ signature products are its traditional Greek sweets including Galaktoboureko, luscious semolina custard encased in filo pastry and Loukoumades, a Greek-style donut soaked in syrup.
In addition to the enviable collection of sweet treats, Nikos also serves a range of savoury favourites and of course, great coffee.
Open seven days a week, the cafe is a favourite among families, young ones and retirees alike and has something to please every appetite no matter what time of day.
“We cater for everyone,” Ms Paras said.
Nikos’ award winning special occasion cakes are available to order and include everything from tiered wedding cakes and cupcakes to show-stopping croquembouche towers.
Ms Paras said they loved operating in Oakleigh due to the vibrant culture.
“People come here and they feel like they’re in Greece. We have a lot of customers whose relatives come from Greece, they bring them straight here and they feel at home,” she said.
Nikos Quality Cakes is open 7am to midnight, seven days a week.
